GOODNIGHT EGG
a new show for children aged 3-6

Production image from GOODNIGHT EGG. A man wearing glasses, dressed in a blue nightshirt and striped blue nightcap holds a book in one hand and a white egg in the other. The white egg is also wearing tiny glasses and a tiny blue nightcap. In the background, there are cardboard moving boxes. A wooden model house can be partially seen behind the man.

Sometimes it can be hard to sleep. Our minds wander and we can’t keep our eyes shut. But tonight, things will be different. Cross your fingers (and toes)...

Co-created by John Doran, Ursula McGinn and Mollie Molumby, GOODNIGHT EGG is a joyful new play for children aged 3-6.

Bombinate first started to develop ideas for GOODNIGHT EGG as part of Baboró: GROW, Pathways to Production. Here the company received mentorship from Baboró, Branar, Galway Theatre Festival, ITI and Mick Lally Theatre, Druid.

Following this
GOODNIGHT EGG was developed with support from The Arts Council's Project Award (Strand 2). Bombinate presented work-in-progress showings of the play at Prosperous National School, supported by Creative Schools, at Roscommon Arts Centre supported by The Bookworms Commission Award, and The Civic as part of Ready, Steady, Show!

The play was selected for Culture Ireland and ITI's international pitching session Things We Haven't Made Yet (September 2019).

GOODNIGHT EGG premiered in a re-worked format as outdoor performances for Early Years settings in Tallaght, Dublin in May/June 2021. This was presented as part of 'Ready, Steady, SHOW!', Civic Theatre's ongoing programme of work for children and young people. Goodnight Egg premiered digitally in October 2021. It toured DCC libraries around Dublin as part of Creative Hubs in association with The Ark and Dublin City Arts Office. Goodnight Egg was presented at Carlow Arts Festival 2023.

Thank you to all at The Civic, Dublin Youth Theatre, FRINGE LAB, Jane Daly and Irish Theatre Institute, Baboro and all the partners of Pathways to Production, Roscommon Arts Centre, Luke Casserly, Rosa Bowden, Rachel Bergin, Marc Mac Lochlainn, Chris Merton, Marion McEvoy at Panchord Studios, Aisling Byrne, the McGinn family, Ronan and Enda Molumby and the pupils of Prosperous National School.
